About the tragic crash of Polish politicans in Russia

Concerning the development of a (Business) Aircraft Use Policy the NBAA offers the following advices:

Company A recognizes and acknowledges the professional judgment of the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) for each flight. The Pilot-in-Command of a flight has the ultimate authority over the safe operation of that flight. This authority cannot be ceded to any other employee or passenger, regardless of title or position within the company or its Board of Directors. The PIC shall report to the [CEO] the name of any passenger who attempts to over-rule the PIC’s decision, and that person will be subject to disciplinary action, including, but not limited to, restrictions on his/her travel on board Company A’s aircraft and could include termination of his/her employment.

Company A’s Chairman and the company CEO shall not travel in the same vehicles to attend a business meeting, because in the event of a delay, accident or incident, the loss to Company A would be too great. The use of supplemental on-demand lift may be utilized if both positions are required at such meeting. For added security during international travel, the individuals in these positions shall not overnight in the same hotel.

With that in mind one onders why so many high profile politicians traveled in the same plane and why the pilot was (probably) ordered to land despite bad weather and different advice from the ground. This shows how crucial it is to develop and follow guidelines for any organization like presented above.

Sterilise irresponsible people before they have children, says Ricky Gervais

“What there is, is too many useless people. Too many people who shouldn’t have children.”

Nope. And after reading the article and the comments I no longer wonder about how something like Eugenics came into existence. More clear than ever I see the causes of this socialist anti-life attitude. First you say “Oh, look how friendly I am, I am a socialist, I like people”, then, when reality steps in and resources become limited you say “Oh, look, they are exploiting our generosity. They are to blame!” Next thing in line is calling for genocide, see the whole global warming religion. The usual “Other people are bad, I want everything for myself.” attitude.

Haiti

Yes, a great tragedy. But what people seem constantly to ignore is that the catastrophe itself began much earlier than the earth quake. Decades of socialism and corruption lead to poverty, bad housing and bad infrastructure. Each single immoral action of the people involved in the last decades caused this disaster to become even worse.

So, when we have discovered that it wasn’t just a natural disaster, what do we do? Continuous disaster-management around the world cannot be the answer. Instead, this leads to people relying on help instead of facing the dangers that may come in the future. The least thing is to speak up, to blame the real causes for this disaster, to educate people about them and to lead by example. In a way, we are responsible for those deaths as well. Lacking a capitalistic form of government we did not allow everyone to enter our countries that wanted to immigrate.

My philosophy, on one foot

Quauere: Ayn Rand could sum up her philosophy while “standing on one foot.” Can you?

Answer: Sure. [lifts left foot off floor] Pursue excellence through balance. This is easier with two feet than one. So, philosopher, resist the temptation to do too much with too little: Learn from the sciences; extend the imagination with the arts. Learn the ways of nature, but do not draw hasty lessons from such study. Try to strike an honest balance with others; when they threaten, or just demand too much, cleverness may have to usurp honesty — but do not get tangled in your own ironies. Stand up to violence, if you can, preferably before being backed into a corner against overwhelming odds. It is often better simply to avoid the violent, and situations that the violent provoke or control; those who misuse language also deserve a cautious eye and a wide berth. Do not fear death, but do not seek it until all honorable options vanish. Try to be cheerful even at the edge of the abyss. When approaching a yellow wood, carry a machete. [lets left foot rest on the floor] Whew.
